A station offers your crew a free navigation map. Its terminal asks for access to your ship. How much access does a map need?
“Explore widely. Read carefully. Your curiosity does not require handing over your keys.”
A fictional permissions puzzle. No wallet connection, transaction, or real access request. You will never be asked to enter a password or recovery phrase.

The label sounds harmless. The actual permission is broader.
A map needs no access to your vault.
You check the station directory already aboard your ship. Its verified map service only needs your public ship name. You leave the original terminal and open that service.
“The question is not just ‘do I want this map?’ It is ‘what am I allowing this service to do?’”
From the story to a real wallet
Read what a request authorizes, not just its friendly label. Check the service, recipient, amount, and permissions. If you cannot understand a request, pause rather than approve it.
Never give a service or support agent your recovery phrase or private key. A recovery phrase can restore control of a wallet; it is not a login code to share.
This ship-vault model is an analogy. Wallets and blockchains handle permissions differently. Sharing a public address is different from signing a transaction or granting spending authority. Disconnecting a site may not revoke earlier on-chain permissions.
One final check
A “support officer” offers to fix your map if you send your secret recovery phrase. What do you do?
